Dear Quilt Center Friends,
What a summer this has been. Thank you for your contribution
making quilts, providing great customer service, and weaving sturdy rugs and
placemats! The Mennonite Quilt Center
started its fiscal year in April and this past Saturday we completed our
biggest sale ever. I am very happy to report that through the efforts of our
volunteers and staff, we are on track to make this the Quilt Center’s biggest year
ever supporting world relief. We can do this only because we have a terrific
team of volunteers, like you.
During our recent sale we concentrated on pruning some of
the older fabric inventory and are now taking the proceeds from that sale to
update our current inventory. Over the
next several months, be sure to check for new fabrics and tell your friends to
be on the lookout for many new designs.
Our plan is to continue to expand the ministry of the
MQC. Over the next several months you
will notice several updates to our facility.
This week we started a plumbing project that will allow us to install a
small café area near the front of the west side of the building formerly part
of the World Handcrafts store. Our
vision is to create a comfortable gathering place for volunteers and community
alike to enjoy great fellowship, a cup of tea, and a zwieback (with plenty of
jam). Next, we will be upgrading the
bathroom area in the back of the facility so that it is accessible for those
with walkers and wheelchairs. We also
have plans to upgrade the areas used by our weavers, as well as, our
offices. Roger Brandt has generously
volunteered his services as our building contractor for the remodel. Thank you, Roger!
We are also aware that over the past few years over thirty
percent of quilt fabrics sales have moved to the Internet and before the end of
2012 we hope to add the capacity to serve “online” quilters, as well. To support our efforts, MCC is providing new
computer equipment for the MQC. (Don’t
be concerned; the point of sale cash register system will not change.)
All this brings me to my last point, with all that is
happening we have more opportunities for more volunteers, be they good with
people, a hammer, computers, or serving tea. We would like to invite you and your friends to join us for a special
coffee break on August the 13th and
27th to hear more about the work of MCC locally and globally.
Thank you again for your support. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate
to call, email (quiltcenter@mcc.org),
or stop in to chat.
Sincerely,
The Quilt Center
