Fall Events at the MQC

02 Nov 2012

Fall is a perfect time for friends, family, and, of course, quilts. November at the Mennonite Quilt Center will feature times for friends old and new to come together. On November 8, the MQC will participate in Ladies' Night Out sponsored by the Reedley Downtown Association. The night will be full of fun, games, and shopping as downtown Reedley opens its doors for the events. During the event, from 5:45-9pm, the entire store will be temporarily discounted 20%!

On the weekend of November 9 and 10, five quilt stores in the area, including the MQC, are joining together for the annual Holiday Hop. Participating stores include: Mennonite Quilt Center (Reedley), Thimble Town (Visalia), Quilters' Quarters (Hanford), Cottage Quilts (Fresno), and Quilters' Paradise (Clovis). Each location will be giving out a free quilt block pattern; the MQC will feature kits and patterns for a holiday table runner designed by store volunteer Kathleen Heinrichs. Grab a friend and start quilt shop hopping!

Volunteers Quilt for Global Relief

28 Sep 2012

The Mennonite Quilt Center is more than just a quilt store; it is a place where people come together to fellowship, share, and use their talents to benefit Mennonite Central Committee's work of relief, development and peace in the name of Christ.

Volunteer Quilters Freda Friesen, Gertrude Lehrman, and Laveda Brandt

Every Monday, quilters gather at the MQC to work on quilts for relief sales that raise money to benefit MCC. Volunteers come anytime between 8 am and noon with a break for coffee, snacks, and sharing at 10 am. To find out more, call the store at 559-638-3560.

Quilt Center Happenings

25 Jul 2012

Dear Quilt Center Friends,

What a summer this has been. Thank you for your contribution making quilts, providing great customer service, and weaving sturdy rugs and placemats!  The Mennonite Quilt Center started its fiscal year in April and this past Saturday we completed our biggest sale ever. I am very happy to report that through the efforts of our volunteers and staff, we are on track to make this the Quilt Center’s biggest year ever supporting world relief. We can do this only because we have a terrific team of volunteers, like you.

During our recent sale we concentrated on pruning some of the older fabric inventory and are now taking the proceeds from that sale to update our current inventory.  Over the next several months, be sure to check for new fabrics and tell your friends to be on the lookout for many new designs.

Our plan is to continue to expand the ministry of the MQC.  Over the next several months you will notice several updates to our facility.  This week we started a plumbing project that will allow us to install a small café area near the front of the west side of the building formerly part of the World Handcrafts store.  Our vision is to create a comfortable gathering place for volunteers and community alike to enjoy great fellowship, a cup of tea, and a zwieback (with plenty of jam).  Next, we will be upgrading the bathroom area in the back of the facility so that it is accessible for those with walkers and wheelchairs.  We also have plans to upgrade the areas used by our weavers, as well as, our offices.  Roger Brandt has generously volunteered his services as our building contractor for the remodel.  Thank you, Roger!

We are also aware that over the past few years over thirty percent of quilt fabrics sales have moved to the Internet and before the end of 2012 we hope to add the capacity to serve “online” quilters, as well.  To support our efforts, MCC is providing new computer equipment for the MQC.  (Don’t be concerned; the point of sale cash register system will not change.)

All this brings me to my last point, with all that is happening we have more opportunities for more volunteers, be they good with people, a hammer, computers, or serving tea.  We would like to invite you and your friends to join us for a special coffee break on August the 13th and 27th to hear more about the work of MCC locally and globally.

Thank you again for your support.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call, email (quiltcenter@mcc.org), or stop in to chat.

Sincerely,

The Quilt Center
